With pen and ink Neil Borrell produces finely detailed country and nautical scenes that are rich in texture and character. His drawings have been published in The New Yorker and the Martha’s Vineyard Gazette. His prints have been displayed at the Swansborough Gallery in Wellfleet, MA and the Wellfleet Historical Society carries his drawing of their Museum in the Cape Cod town that has inspired much of his work.

In New York, Neil’s drawings were the subject of a one man show, “Fishing Ports in Pen & Ink”, at the South Street Seaport Museum and another at Barnes and Noble. His work has also been featured in group exhibits at Lincoln Center, The Hudson Guild, Bank Street College, The Educational Alliance in New York, online at Gallery Direct (gallerydir.com), and in Malaga, Spain.

Neil’s pursuit of subjects has taken him to France, Spain, Portugal, England and Wales, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, and Cape Cod.

An exception to the fishing ports and rural villages that characterize most of Neil’s work, Paris remains his favorite locale, perhaps because his artistic career began in earnest there in the spring of 1969. An elaborate wooden door across the boulevard from his hotel’s café inspired a drawing that he shared with his friends and family as a Christmas card. The Borrell Christmas card became an annual tradition eagerly awaited and enthusiastically displayed in many households.
